TN Cancer Consortium Conference featuring Think About the Link® Campaign

The Tennessee Cancer Consortium’s Annual Cancer Conference in Tennessee will be held on July 20, 2017 at the Millennium Maxwell House Hotel and Conference Center in Nashville. The Cancer Conference objectives are to bring together over 300 volunteers of the state’s cancer community to discuss issues, share ideas and focus on transforming the latest knowledge into strategies that communities, institutions, businesses and individuals can employ to the reduce cancer burden in our state.

The morning portion of the Conference will include a panel discussion on Prevent Cancer Foundation’s Think About the Link Campaign, the lunch keynote speaker will be survivor and award winning actress Marissa Winokur, the afternoon will consist of breakout sessions on topics including tobacco, women’s health, advocacy, and cancer care. Registration at the day long conference includes breakfast, lunch, break snacks and an evening networking reception.

Think About the Link® will be in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 19th, in partnership with Hep B United Philly, the Hepatitis B Foundation and Hepatitis C Allies of Philadelphia for an educational summit on hepatitis B, hepatitis C and the link to liver cancer. Local medical professionals, public health educators and advocates will be in attendance to inform Philadelphians of the newest research and policy efforts related to viruses and liver cancer. There will also be an open panel discussion on the new implications of the revised Affordable Care Act.  Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

May 20, 2016

On May 20th, Think About the Link® will be in Dallas, Texas in partnership with UT Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas County Health and Human Services, and UNT Health Science Center for an engaging educational summit on the human papillomavirus (HPV), hepatitis B, hepatitis C and their link to cancer. Renowned medical professionals and health advocates will provide research on the best practices for screening and treatment of populations most at-risk for these viruses. This summit will include an open panel discussion on how the latest policy developments impact virus screening opportunities for the public. The following day, free or low-cost hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HPV screenings and vaccinations will be provided at locations across the city.

October 8, 2016

On October 8th, the Foundation and New Tang Dynasty partnered for an event to raise awareness of the link between viruses and cancer in the local Asian community. At the event, Dr. Myron Schwartz (The Mount Sinai Medical Center) and Dr. Mei R. Fu (New York University) taught more than 350 people about HPV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C. State Senators Tony Avella and Toby Ann Staviski gave special remarks at the event. More than 15 vendors also were on-site to provide free viral hepatitis screenings, health exams, dental exams and more for the community. Data showed that after the event, attendees better understood the risk factors for all three viruses.
